Q. what if I meet you for an Intial session but I don't want to meet you again?
A. That is absolutely fine, for counselling to work effectively; you as a client have to feel like you connect with your counsellor and vice versa. If a connection is not felt by one or other of the party then it is better to be honest so that you can spend time finding the right counsellor for you.
Q. Are you able to give me advice about how to solve my problem?
A. No, I am not here to give you advice or tell you what to do, but we can explore your problem together and see if we can come up with some suggestions of how you can solve your problem - taking the time to look at your options.
Q. Would I be able to pay for my counselling sessions monthly or in one full payment or weekly?
A. yes, We can discuss fee payments in our initial session, but I am reasonably flexible and would like to help make this as easy for you as possible. I can take payments directly by cash or cheque at the session - If you wish to pay by Debit/Credit card or to set up a direct debit/standing order then I can give you details of the best way to do this when we meet.
Q. I saw a counsellor before, but I didn't get on with them or find it helpful, will this always be the case for me?
A. Not necessarily. I believe that if we can create a comfortable working relationship where we both feel we can be honest and open with each other then there is every chance that you will find some benefit from counselling. Sometimes when people choose to access counselling, they don't always have a choice of who they see (i.e through an agency or the NHS) that's why it is important for us to meet before we commit to regular sessions.
Q. I am disabled and can't cope with stairs, will I still be able to come and see you?
A. I will do everything I can to accommodate you. The room is on the top floor of the building, but there is a lift up to just outside of my room and a disabled toilet on the same floor. If you felt the need to bring someone to help you then there is a seated area outside of the room where they can wait for you. If you still think that this is a problem then I would be willing to make a home visit, all that I ask is that you ensure that we have as few distractions as possible.
Q. I'm uncomfortable about going out and meeting people - would you be able to meet me at my house?
A. yes, if this is a problem for you then yes I am willing to make home visits if it is something I can fit in around other clients at the time - just make contact with me and we can discuss a suitability.
