What is Reiki? Reiki pronounced Rey-Ke, is a Japanese word that describes any type of healing that is based on working with the universal life force energy.
It is not religious, invasive or hippy voodoo stuff.
What to expect? Reiki is a hands on healing approach (however I can still offer healing without actually touching you if you'd prefer) to help with physical, emotional and mental ailments.
During the session; you will relax in a comfy chair whilst I will play soft music to help drown out any outside noises (unless you ask me not to). If you need a little help to relax I can talk you through a relaxation breathing technique or meditation - however this is not always needed and most people find that they relax quite quickly without it once the Reiki starts.
Once you are comfortable I will gently place my hands on certain points of your body and work on balancing your energy and chakras. It's History
Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui (1865 - 1926) after he rediscovered some ancient Sanskrit texts. Since originating in Japan, Reiki has been adapted into varying cultural traditions across the world. Reiki practitioners use a technique they call palm healing or hands-on healing by which a "universal energy" is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to a patient in order to encourage healing.
Dr Usui is said to have taught over 2000 people the technique over his lifetime including Dr Churiro Hayashi (1878 - 1940), he played a major role in the transmission of Reiki out of Japan and for turning it into a less mystical practice.Hayashi was a naval physician and employed Reiki to treat his patients. He began studying with Usui in 1925. He made his branch, Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu-kai in Tokyo, Shinano-machi while his master Usui was still alive, and has kept the way of Usui's teaching.
Hayashi initiated and trained Hawayo Takata (1900 - 1980) and helped her bring Reiki to Hawaii. As some of the popular history of Reiki consists of Takata's alleged fabrications, Hayashi is often considered to be Usui's chief disciple and the second Grand Master of Reiki history. Mrs Takata construed Reiki's history of development in order to make Reiki more appealing to the West.To this end she made a relation of Reiki with Jesus Christ and not with Buddhism. She also presented Usui as the dean of a Christian school. While he had obtained the knowledge of Reiki from the Buddhist religious book Tantra of the Lightning Flash, Takata claimed that he had been inspired from the story of Jesus Christ, who had healed with the touch of his hand, and so had come to America to learn Reiki. She told this to spread Reiki among Christians too, believing it would otherwise be extinct. However, in 1994, the original manuscript of Usui was found, which claimed that Reiki had originated from Gautama Buddha.
It is important for a Reiki Practitioner to be able to follow their lineage back to these founding masters.
