Sometimes going to see a counsellor just isn't possible for whatever reason, so I offer this alternative way of still being able to access help when you need it.
If you are still unsure after reading the information below, then please contact me to discuss further options.
With technology ever evolving and lifestyles becoming busier and busier, the need for distance counselling is becoming more popular.
The Pro's;
You can be in the comfort of your own home or office.
It might enable you to be more flexible around meeting times.
No travelling, parking and rushing about.
You can find the right counsellor for you, even if they don't live locally to you.
If you suffer e.g. panic attacks and the thought of going out and meeting a counsellor provokes an attack, then distance counselling can be a positive step towards getting help. Then if you wanted to we could build up to meeting in the counselling room.
The Con's;
Sometimes it can take a little bit longer to establish a working relationship (but not always).
Occasional problems with modern technology.
If you like the idea of visual learning this can become a slower process, as it may need some preparation time rather than me reaching for a pen and paper like I would in the counselling room.
Interruptions such as the phone ringing, postman knocking, someone walking into your office etc unless you can ensure privacy this can cause a distraction.
Telephone Counselling
I still offer the first hour session free, this will give you an idea as to whether telephone counselling with me feels ok.
Some people who are unsure whether they would prefer phone or internet counselling have tried 30 minutes of each to see the difference.
Internet Counselling Again the 1st session is free
Internet counselling can take place via several methods.
The most common one people opt for is 'Skype'. With all of these programs, we would be able to either chat by instant messenger such as Whatsapp, voice call or be able to see each other via video chat, It is up to you what you feel comfortable with. Find out more about Skype Find out more about Whatsapp Find out more about Zoom Find out more about Sylo
Email; we would set an hour aside to exchange emails (A set rate can also be discussed for spread out emailing)
Facebook chat/messenger - but bare in mind if anybody else can have access to your Facebook account, they could potentially read the conversation.
If you wish to continue with distance counselling then I will email or post you through a counselling contract and all relevant information. When we've agreed our terms then we will book a suitable hour slot.
Special measures may need to be considered for online safety, including password protection, your privacy settings etc - paramount is your right to confidentiality. Things that also may need to be considered are; if you're using a work computer, your employer has the right to access all information stored on it.
